Allan Grigor, RIP

by Peter Grigor

Sad news: after months of struggling with colon cancer and liver disease my father died this morning around 1.45am.

He was lucid enough to have a conversation with me, Nick and Josh the last we saw him around three weeks ago and that was a blessing.

Excerpt from a Cat’s Diary…
Day 983 of my captivity…. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a ‘good little hunter’ I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of ‘allergies.’ I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now.

Get Ready for Part II

by Peter Grigor

More snow to come today and Wednesday. We should expect another ten inches of snow the weather service is saying. That’s also what they said when we got 22″ of snow last Friday.

I’ve had several neighbors state that if their power goes out again they’re going to lose it. :)

Power’s Back!

by Peter Grigor

Looks like everyone’s power came back about 1/2 hour ago. It would seem that the Friday estimate was simply power company “wiggle room.”

Our lines are still drooping on the side yard, however, and hopefully that’s taken care of shortly.

Update: Whaaa? I’m offline for two days and they change Facebook on me??

Still without power, but…

by Peter Grigor

Power’s out, and supposed to be until Friday (!). However, there’s a silver lining: it seems that our neighbors are on a different grid from us and, hence, they have power. So I asked Rob next door if I could bring an extension over to his place and plug in so we could get the furnace going.

I brought over the cord, plugged it in, and hooked it up to the furnace, and voila–heat! So tomorrow morning we should wake up with the place warmer than 45 degrees. Brrrrrr.

Many thanks to Rob and K.C. Must have you over for supper once we’re 100% again.

Snowzilla

by Peter Grigor

Wow are we getting hammered! Wet heavy snow, more than nine inches on the ground already, is breaking and bending tree branches all over the neighborhood. A lot of homes have lost power (including us); and the storm isn’t supposed to let up until tomorrow afternoon!

Wheee :)

Session was a Hit

by Peter Grigor

Had a grand time at the studio yesterday, but didn’t get as much video captured as I’d like. We were all pretty busy for the whole day.

I did get Eric, one of the studio assistants, to grab the camera and get some shots while we tracked “My Kinda Love.” That video is included below.

All in all, rhythm tracks for five songs done, and Mark was able to get guitar solos and layering done too. Not bad for a day session.

Update: Yes I know you can’t hear anything except for the drums. When I figure out how to attach headphones to the camera maybe you’ll hear the actual mix. :)

Fewer at Supper, but Much Fun

by Peter Grigor

Well Graham didn’t make it to the rehearsal — flight got moved back. Mark and Jay showed up for plinkin’ and supper and a great time was had by all. Mark’s a helluva nice guy and Abby shadowed him as much as she possibly could, whilst being shooed by me many times. He amazed me with how fast he picked up on the songs, and how much his suggestions coincided with what Jay and I had already spoken about. It’s going to be a good session.

Will be heading to the studio tomorrow and will bring a camera and video camera along. Promise to have pics and video put up shortly. No, really.

Actually, I should probably get on putting together the footage from the San Diego trip last October. Man I’m a slacker.

Rehearsal Tomorrow…

by Peter Grigor

The boys from NYC are flying in tomorrow and we’ll be doing some rehearsing at my place before hitting the studio on Monday. I’ll try to get some video either of the rehearsing, which will most likely be more rehorsing mostly; or will get some video of the tracking session on Monday, or both.

The lineup is: Mark Stewart, guitar & cello; Graham Hawthorne, drums; and Leo Traversa on bass. Mark and Graham will be flying in in the afternoon, Leo will be driving and won’t be in until late evening. Feel sorry for Leo.

All these guys are top-shelf, and I suspect will be adding to the material substantially.

Oh yes, and Mark and Graham will make it in time for dinner. I’m just hoping Nicki doesn’t have them slipping into a pleasure coma after one of her sooper-yum meals. I’d like to get at least some work done.

Alright, alright, alright…

by Peter Grigor

I’m putting my blog up at http://pgrigor.wordpress.com. I’m cross-linking it to my facebook, youtube and twitter accounts; and I’m going to post regularly.

That’s the plan. :)
